Newsletter: Ecotricity, LIVE, AGF & MVT Team Up on Game-Changing Green Energy Scheme

    Fri 11th Jul 2025

Ecotricity, LIVE, AGF & MVT Team Up on Game-Changing Green Energy Scheme

LIVE has supercharged its partnership with Ecotricity Business and A Greener Future in a landmark initiative alongside the Music Venue Trust.  The Live Events Energy Scheme (LEES), powered by Ecotricity Business, gives venues, and promoters a simple, impactful way to cut carbon emissions by switching to 100% green energy. The pioneering initiative will further integrate green practice into the UK’s vibrant live music and festival industry delivering significant cost savings, promoting sustainable best practices and demonstrating climate leadership across the industry.

LEES works using the ‘energy basket’ model, meaning participants buy their energy collectively - driving down cost and making it cheaper than if they were attempting to buy it themselves. The scheme can also provide access to deep green energy products like Power Purchase Agreements and the Real Time REGOs (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin) solution, which are normally only available to high energy users.

Launched by Ecotricity, LIVE, AGF and MVT in February 2025 with the intention to reduce the carbon footprint of UK live music while strengthening financial resilience in the industry, venues of every size are right now being encouraged to join the scheme.

Dale Vince OBE, Founder of Ecotricity, commented: “This is big news for live music, as venues across Britain – including London’s iconic The O2 – will be powered by deep green energy. It’s a major step forward, and a proper milestone on the road to greening up the live entertainment world.”

From iconic arenas to grassroots venues, LEES gives us all a hassle-free route to:

    100% renewable energy

Reduce energy bills and carbon impact

Access expert advice and tailored support

Demonstrate credible climate action through AGF certification

Collaborate with industry partners and innovators across the entire sector.

LIVE, Ecotricity Business, AGF and MVT are calling on all promoters, venue operators, and festival organisers to join the movement and help build a carbon-free live music industry.

    Date: 11th November, 2025

    Time: 12pm - 1pm UK

    Location: Online, Zoom

    SIGN UP FOR FREE HERE

    Session Overview:
Over the past year, South Asian live music has continued to grow in visibility, with artists selling out major UK venues and curated spaces at festivals spotlighting South Asian creativity. Yet behind the highlights, many barriers remain, particularly for UK-based diaspora artists navigating an uneven playing field.

In this follow-up to 2024's "From Melas to Stadiums" session, award-winning inclusion specialist and music researcher Sania Haq returns to explore how we can move beyond celebration to sustainable change. From breaking bottlenecks in the talent pipeline to addressing affordability and audience demand, this session will unpack the practical steps needed to support South Asian live music at every level.

Whether you're an established promoter, venue manager, funder, or working within South Asian music (as an artist, manager or cultural curator), this session will provide a much-needed space to reflect, connect, and plan forward.

Join us for an honest, action-focused conversation about identity, access, and opportunities in live music, with space for Q&A and idea-sharing.

LIVE Venues: Martyn’s Law Webinar busts myths and sets out timeline

Thanks to Home Office colleagues and all who attended LIVE’s recent webinar on the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act aka Martyn’s Law.  The Home Office team took everyone through a detailed plan for the implementation of the law.  Importantly, they stressed that there is no legal requirement to comply with the Act until it comes into force in mid-2027.  And that, there should be no need for third party tools to ensure compliance.  Important messages given the number of consultants, event partners and council that have moved prematurely to expect compliance and, in the case of consultants, sell products supposedly offering that compliance.

LIVE looks forward to working with the Home Office and SIA on the development of compliance materials, in the meantime, please refer to useful documents such as a new Martyn's Law Myth Buster, Martyn’s Law overview and what you need to know and the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025: factsheets.

Setting the Standard: LIVE x CIISA Webinar Highlights

LIVE was delighted to partner with the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA) for an insightful member webinar on Wednesday 29 October. The session explored how CIISA is working to build safer, fairer and more inclusive workplaces across the UK’s creative industries, and what this means for the live music sector.

During the session, Jen Smith (CEO, CIISA) outlined CIISA’s mission to prevent and tackle bullying, harassment and discrimination across the UK’s creative industries, and shared updates on the organisation’s establishment and governance. Niyi Akeju (Head of Standards Development & Stakeholder Engagement) also presented the newly launched CIISA Standards, explaining how they are being embedded across film, television, theatre and music to create safer, more inclusive working environments.

The CIISA Standards have been recognised as a key intervention in the Government’s Creative Industries Sector Plan and in the Women and Equalities Select Committee’s Misogyny in Music reports.

Members interested in learning more can read CIISA’s Annual Report, which highlights three key areas of activity: the establishment of its governance and Board; the launch of the CIISA Standards; and the development of CIISA’s service model.

Help shape new research on the impact of the UK Outdoor Events Industry

LIVE are calling on the industry to get behind a new research project that will demonstrate the true economic and social value of the UK’s Outdoor Events sector. Funded by The Purple Guide and the Events Industry Forum, and delivered by The Power of Events, this study will provide credible, independent evidence to strengthen advocacy, policy, and investment across our sector.

Outdoor event organisers are invited to submit details of their events — not organisational data, just key event information such as size, type, audience, staffing, and turnover. Every response will help build a clearer picture of the huge value our industry delivers to communities, businesses, and local economies.

    How to take part:

Download the Event Industry Insights App to access the research.

Share the link with your members and networks and encourage them to take part.

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete, and all responses are confidential.

A follow-up survey focusing on the outdoor events supply chain will launch later this month, for questions or to request a short briefing to share with your colleagues or members, contact claire@thepowerofevents.org.
